Forestburgh Playhouse Company Cook (May–October)

The theater company is the backbone of the Forestburgh Playhouse, bringing together a talented group of Broadway performers, directors, designers, and emerging artists. As the Company Cook, you'll play a vital role in fueling this dynamic team throughout the season.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Stocking breakfast items for self-serve
  • Preparing and serving buffet-style lunches and dinners (with a focus on timing due to tight schedules)
  • Ensuring dietary needs are met
  • Preparing snacks, fruit, and occasional birthday cakes
  • Organizing and serving at cast parties on opening nights
  • Menu planning, food purchasing, and maintaining a clean, organized kitchen
  • Dishwashing and other tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • ServSafe Certification (required)
  • 2+ years of experience in volume food preparation (preferred)

During our "In The Works, In The Woods" festival (Sept. 5–7), you'll also support new theatrical works by preparing meals for the company and boxed foods for patrons.

Forestburgh Tavern Kitchen Staff (Mid-May to October)

We're looking for motivated kitchen staff to help deliver exceptional service in a fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity for students or individuals eager to gain experience in food service.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting with food prep (e.g., chopping vegetables, setting up serving lines)
  • Washing dishes and maintaining kitchen cleanliness
  • Adhering to food safety guidelines under the supervision of the kitchen manager
  • Organizing recycling, compost, and trash removal
  • End-of-day cleaning, including mopping (for closing shifts)

General Qualifications:

  • Basic kitchen skills (chopping, measuring, using tools)
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Good hygiene and attention to food safety
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality
  • Flexibility to work various shifts

Dinner Cabaret and Event Chef (Approx. June 10–Sept. 2)

We are seeking an experienced chef with a strong background in catering and volume cooking. A Bachelor's or Associate degree in Culinary Arts is preferred. Excellent guest service skills, verbal communication, and the ability to perform under pressure are essential for this role.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Menu creation: Develop menus for dinner cabarets and special events, with seven unique menus for the summer main stage plays.
  • Food preparation: Prepare meals based on reservations and event requirements. Expect 35-125 patrons per dinner.
  • Kitchen staff supervision: Oversee food preparation workers and general kitchen staff.
  • Culinary budget management: Manage the budget for food services and events.
  • Food safety: Ensure food safety and quality standards are met.
  • Kitchen safety: Maintain kitchen safety protocols.
  • Ingredient freshness: Check the quality and freshness of ingredients.
  • Equipment and work area inspection: Ensure all supplies and equipment are clean and functional.

Cabaret and Event Schedule:

Dinner Cabarets: Tuesday through Saturday
Matinee Lunches: Generally Wednesdays, with occasional Sundays

The menus for these events typically include:

  • Salad and Bread (plated and served upon arrival)
  • Two entrees (e.g., fish and chicken or pork)
  • One starch
  • Two vegetables
  • Dessert

Patrons begin with salad and bread, followed by a buffet service. After everyone is served, the cabaret performance starts. At intermission, dinner plates are cleared, and dessert with coffee is served. Cleanup begins at the end of the event.

Additional Details:

We accommodate dietary requests with advance notice. Additionally, there may be special events during the summer requiring catering services. You will also collaborate with the company cook, sharing kitchen space during preparation times.
